Sunday Sketches

Just a quick post this week as I’m actually about to start a painting. Do you remember the mermaid sketch I did a while back? Its intention was a layout sketch for a painting for my eldest daughter. Unfortunately, eldest daughter had some reservations about the composition. The octopus got his marching orders and a number of other things weren’t what she wanted, so I’ve revised the sketch, changed its focus and taken a great deal of art direction as to subjects and colours from said eldest daughter. This is the result.

Mermaid 2 sketch

Way outside my norm, but I’ll give it a go. Apparently the mermaid has a red tail, red-gold hair, the clam is yellow, the crab blue along with the blue fish and the starfish is orange. These are my orders :D

Let’s see what it turns out like.

Don’t forget to visit all the other groovy Sunday Sketches peeps, there is some fantastic talent out there.

See all my Sunday Sketches posts!

Best wishes,
Liz

I re-drew her onto canvas ready for painting and I made her head too big :D Threw the composition out of whack, so it is different again. I think I need to shrink her eyeballs before I start painting :D

This is so new for me, I have no real idea what I’m doing.

      Thanks for dropping in :D

It is drawn down onto the canvas, but has changed slightly since I drew here head to big and had to alter the composition :D

Ah, the challenges of creating outside my comfort zone :D

      Thanks for dropping by.

I thought of you shortly after I drew her and I think you had an influence. Nothing specific, but when I looked at her I wondered how much of your style I had unconsciously channelled when creating her. Not that I could ever do the fantastic job you do, but I definitely thought of you :D

Thanks for dropping by and for your fantastic artwork inspiring me :D

I liked the original but I think I like this version even better. Love the addition of the clam with the pearl.

    • Liz Powley on April 25, 2012 at 5:38 am

Thanks. My daughter demanded the clam. Apparently one of the mermaid books has a clam in it (Daddy is the lucky person to get to read her that book :D ). Each and every creature featured in the design has been pre-approved :D
